I think one of my favorite parts of my work is the sense of community it creates. Not only do I love working with women and building a business that inspires and cultivates ease within the self, but it’s also a space that naturally brings people together in gathering and celebration. That, to me, is everything.
Last year’s solstice marked a meaningful moment for SITA Couture—the introduction of Purépecha Native trims, inspired by my father’s roots in Michoacán, into the collection. It felt like more than coincidence that these trims arrived on his birthday. He loved them deeply, incorporating the weaves as belts, trims, and borders throughout his design. Our men’s collection continues to draw from his incredible sense of style, while this moment opened the door to bringing those same elements into women’s pieces as well.
The solstice gathering itself was a beautiful celebration of culture, creativity, and purpose. We honored the foundation Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women / Way of the Sacred Mountain and the important work they are doing. Guests experienced moving poetry by Luz Uribe, heard excerpts from Jeanmarie Tenuto’s 33rd Parallel manuscript, and celebrated the launch of Native Star boutique. We shared incredible food—warm, nourishing posole—and welcomed the new season in prayer with Uncle Redbird, accompanied by his Kiowa drum and the powerful Red Warrior drummers. Local artisans also joined us, offering their specialty foods, drinks, and handcrafted goods, adding even more richness to the experience.
Since moving to Encinitas, we’ve made it a tradition to gather as a community for each solstice and equinox. These moments have become a space to share food, music, stories, and culture—a reminder of what truly connects us.
One of my favorite parts is welcoming Uncle Redbird to bless the season. It’s a gift to share this with the community. As my friend Jeanmarie Tenuto writes in her 33rd Parallel manuscript, “Understanding the cosmos, the earth elements, the cycles, and how we move with them creates a deep understanding of our humanity.” My dad always referred to this as Natural and Cosmic Law—an awareness of the unseen forces that shape our lives in ways more profound than the material.
Indigenous cultures have long been the keepers of this wisdom. It has never been hidden, only offered—shared generously with those who are willing to listen, to feel, and to receive.
At SITA Couture, these gatherings are more than events—they are expressions of intention, heritage, and connection. As we continue to grow, we remain rooted in honoring where we come from while creating space for community to flourish. Each piece, each celebration, and each shared moment is part of a larger story—one woven with meaning, memory, and spirit.
